Guayasamin’s Still at Excelencias Cultural Space

The Excelencias Cultural Space has been exposing since May 12 a selection of graphic works made by celebrated painter Oswaldo Guayasamin. The exhibit showcases FOR THE FIRST TIME and sells in Spain 15 unpublished artworks by the Ecuadorean artist, all of them brimming with tremendous expressiveness and social impact.

The etchings will be on sale at a unique price tag of 2,400€, featuring major discounts for those who buy more than two works. The fundraising event will help bankroll the Capilla del Hombre (Man’s Chapel) in Ecuador as a posthumous tribute to the artist.

Guayasamin was a committed artist and the top advocate of indigenous expressionism. His work, marked by lines, faces and cringed hands, shows off profound emotiveness and stands for a denouncing cry of resistance toward a world of inequalities. Its deep humanist character can be seen in each piece contained in this retrospective of his work.

This exhibition could be visited thru July 15 at the Excelencias Cultural Space (C/ Magdalena, 8, bajo dcha. Madrid), Monday thru Friday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Saturdays from 10:00 to 2:00 pm.

As put by Pilar Gomez Ruiz, coordinator of the Guayasamin Foundation in Spain: “Through the curatorship of these 15 artworks by master painter Guayasamin –especially handpicked for this exhibit- we want visitors to have visual-artistic support when dealing with the historic, social and cultural values that shore up the Hispanic American integration and the defense of human rights and a culture of peace. The works exposed here are all ORIGINALLY AUTOGRAPHED BY THE AUTHOR and were made in a handmade fashion at the Foundation’s workshops with 260 colors in each and every one of them. The sale will help finance the Capilla del Hombre in Ecuador, the grand posthumous project the genial artist left unfinished in his homeland, Ecuador.”
