Artist Nestor Siré Announces 6th Workshop on Cuban Contemporary Art

 

Enlace Compartido (Shared Link) is a call conceived by artist Nestor Siré to participate in the 6th Workshop on Cuban Contemporary Art (6th SACC is the Spanish acronym), sponsored by the Visual Arts Development Center. By means of this event, Siré is going to create a work in process that begins with this announcement, an opportunity he will share with another Cuban artist, who might be based in Cuba or overseas.



RULES

As technologies get democratized in terms of access, literacy and cultural potential, the generation, spreading and consumption of information have articulated a new model of interaction and collaboration. Art, which takes a closer look at the development of new technologies and standardized languages for digital communications, makes the most of global networks and enhances its capabilities to reach out new publics and social spaces.

 

 

This call tries to use those means in order to open up the scope, spreading and circulation art might have thanks to a specific artistic project.

 

 

Enlace Compartido project, conceived by Nestor Siré, is based on the creation of a work in process. By means of this call, Siré will collaborate with another artist interested in participating in the 6th Workshop on Cuban Contemporary Art, thus sharing the opportunity he’s given as guest to the 6th SACC. The creator chosen through this call will have full autonomy to work on the piece. On the other hand, Siré’s work includes the call process and all the activities it brings about, which are going to be summarized on the exhibit’s catalogue.

 

 

CONDITIONS

All Cuban artists can participate, whether they live in Cuba or abroad, there is no age limit, and they can be self-taught or come from other disciplines.

 

The theme or concept to participate in the event is: Information, Communication and their circulation canals in the Cuban context.

 

The projects are to be unpublished. Likewise, the artists invited to the 6th SACC are not allowed to present projects.

Each author can present only one work or project.

Collective or solo projects are allowed.

The call is open to: painting, graphic work, sculpture, installation, photography, video art, performance, new means, etc.

Video works shall be sent in: NTSC, H 264 format, up to 10 minutes length. If the video is available online in You Tube, Vimeo or the artist’s web site, the link is to be sent for its promotion.

By registering, the artist joins the project and agrees to use the information sent, so it can be included in the actions to be carried out within the framework of Enlace Compartido, but copyright remains intact. After the event, Enlace Compartido will lose the above-mentioned rights on the projects.

 

SELECTION

An expert jury will be in charge of choosing the winning project.

The jury members are going to be selected by the artists that participate in the call. On their registration form, each artist will propose three members of the jury (art critics, curators or artists).

 

 

Once the jury is complete, Enlace Compartido will contact the chosen artist, who’ll have three days to ratify the participation. After that period of time, that position will be given to the second one on the list.

 

 

The handpicked artist will agree to deliver the physical piece in the specified date, by directly sending the work to the Visual Arts Development Center (CDAV is the Spanish acronym).

 

The chosen one shall undertake to produce, transfer and set up the work. Enlace Compartido will provide support with CDAV’s setting up team.

The sender shall pay for the transportation. Enlace Compartido and CDAV assume no responsibility for any damage taken during the transportation.

Enlace Compartido encourages intervention proposals at CDAV’s spaces that don’t usually host exhibits.

The jury will independently pick up the winner. Nestor Siré has nothing to do with the final selection.

The jury’s final decision is not appealable.

The result is going to be announced by means of social networks and emails.

 

 

REGISTRATION

The artists shall fill the registration form and email it to: enlacecompartido6sacc@gmail.com, subject: Enlace Compartido, full name.

The material that does not meet the requirements described on the rules or the form will be put aside.

 

 

AWARD

As an award, the winning work is going to be showcased as an Action of the Workshop, within the context of the 6th Workshop on Cuban Contemporary Art.

Enlace Compartido guarantees the design and printing of one brochure, one poster and the technical specifications of the display.

 

 

DATES

The deadline to send the documents is Friday October 31, 2014, 5:00 pm. (UTC-05:00).

The artist that wins the Enlace Compartido call is going to be announced on Monday November 17, 2014.

The chosen work is to be delivered on Monday January 19, 2015, at: Visual Arts Development Center (CDAV).

The work shall be set up between Monday January 19 and Thursday 22, 2015.

The show will open on Friday January 23, 2015, at 5:00 pm.

Depending on the requirements of the work and requests issued by the artist, these dates could change.

Enlace Compartido will promote, by means of https://enlacecompartido.jux.com, the works of artists that agree to do so.
