Artworks by Fidelio Ponce de León—born in Camaguey—located in three Cuban provinces, will be exhibited throughout the year in this province, on occasion of the 120th birthday of one of the most remarkable Cuban painters.

The art exhibit will open on January 24, the same day of his birth anniversary, with 20 paintings belonging to the National Fine Arts Museum, in Havana; the Palacio de Junco, in Matanzas, and Ignacio Agramonte, in Camaguey, where the exhibition will remain.

Ernesto Escobar, president of the Visual Arts Provincial Council, told AIN news agency this entity coordinated the tribute program with its similar at a national level.

He said one of these activities will consist in giving different characteristics to the “Fidelio Ponce de León” visual arts event in the province during the upcoming edition, which will take place in September.

One of the changes seen for the first time is to extend the call to residents living in the country and abroad.

The program also includes actions such as that of the City Hall (Camagüey), the Décima Mural (Guáimaro), and Visual Arts and Identity (Sibanicú), according to the specialist.

The Cuban artist was born in 1895, and died in 1949, in La Habana, and was the author of important works like Las Beatas, Niños, and Tuberculosis.
