illycaffè announces the eighth annual for illy SustainArt Award at ARCOmadrid2015

Madrid.-the projects by artists Angel and Fernando Poyón - Gallery - T20; Lenora de Barros - Millan Gallery-, Sergio Zevallos - 80m 2 Gallery -, and Livia Benavides - are the finalists for the illy Sustain Art Award, an award recognizing  the work of a participating artist in the section #SoloProjects at ARCOmadrid, with 15,000 euros plus the on the participation platform online www.illySustainArt.org.

 

Irene Hofmann and Lucía Sanromán, directors for  #SoloProjects section, and the curators Miguel A. López, Kiki Mazzucchelli and Emiliano Valdés argue his selection explain on their choosing that "among many artists with talent who have participated in the #SoloProjects program this year, we have selected three finalists for the award illy for their ability to develop intense experimental projects, and they force the limits of the artistic practice itself." Our finalists represent two generations of artists who work with a wide range of media. We want to recognize and encourage the work of each of them through this nomination."

 

The prize will be given at ARCOmadrid on Thursday, February 26, at 17.00 p.m., illy Sustain Art (Hall 7), by a jury composed of Cuauhtémoc Medina, curator from University Museum of Contemporary Art (MUAC, as per its initials in Spanish) -UNAM, Mexico D.F Chief; João Fernandes, deputy director of preservation, research and dissemination of the National Musuem Reina Sofía Art Center and Carlo Bach, director of art of illycaffè plus the presence of Carlos Urroz, director of ARCOmadrid.

 

illycaffé celebrates the eighth edition of illy Sustain Art at Award at ARCOmadrid, and the fourth edition dedicated to the #SoloProjects program, which will carried out this year on the basis of three issues focused on essential ideas and areas of research and artistic creation at the current Latin American contemporary art. They are: El legado de las vanguardias latinoamericanas (the legacy of the Latin American avant-garde); Repensando el formalismo: abstracción y fuentes vernáculas (rethinking about formalism: abstraction and vernacular sources), and Performatividad de género y prácticas de investigación en América Latina performance related to genre and research in Latin America. The three artists selected to participate in the award illy Sustain Art represent each category respectively.

 

The Premio illy SustainArt is aimed at providing visibility and opportunities for connection on the online platform www.illySustainArt.org as well as recognizing the winning artist with a value of 15,000 euros. The prize emerged with the aim of disseminating the approach of the company towards the sustainable growth in the international artistic community, providing opportunities for visibility and exchange within the market of artists from emerging countries.

 

The Premio illy SustainArt was established at ARCOmadrid in 2008, recognizing the young Brazilian artist Matheus Rocha Pitta in its first edition. In its second edition, in 2009, the prize was awarded to Avinash Veeraraghavan, one of the emerging young talents of India. In the edition of 2010, they recognized Mexican artist Camilo Ontiveros, and in 2011, Brazilian artist André Komatsu. In 2012, the award was given to Chilean artist Voluspa Jarpa; in 2013 the pair of artists Julia Rometti & Victor Costales received an award for their work " Anarquismo Mágico " Magical anarchism, and in its latest edition, the award was given to Argentine artist Diego Bruno for his work "Location".

 

Illy SustainArt

 

The Premio illy SustainArt was created in 2007 with the aim of deepening the dimension of actions of illycaffè related to the contemporary art world and expanding the approach of the company to the community international artistic looking for a sustainable growth.
