The Guggenheim Bilbao Museum presents: Jeff Koons: retrospective

By: Carlos Gutiérrez

The renowned artist, author of 'Puppy', a monumental puppy erected at the Guggenheim Museum, attends the opening of a retrospective of his work in the Basque capital.

The creator reunites with his giant 'pet' at the door of Guggenheim in Bilbao. The exhibition organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York in collaboration with the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum and the Centre National d'Art et de culture Georges Pompidou in Paris, reconstructs the career of Jeff Koons from a smart and ordering perspective. The different sources the author nourishes (Dadaism, Surrealism ...) make him a unique artist with a very unique style.

Jeff Koons is one of the major figures of contemporary art. The American has developed in recent decades a number of works that led him to fame. Between terms like 'minimalist or 'neo-pop' this genius of criticism sculpture is defined, which satirizes the consumerism with a machiavellian sense of humor. His career has deepened the powerful influence of consumerism in society at the mercy of advertising and mass media. Jeff Koons holds that the middle class aspires to the ephemeral and the simplest.
