2nd Poster Festival to be dedicated to the female universe

The 2nd Poster Festival will be dedicated to women in the Cuban poster graphic field and how they have been reflected in this graphic expression.  The Festival will take place in several cultural institutions in Havana from April 25 to 29.    

 

Around ten exhibits will be inaugurated during those days, highlighting Un grito de mujer. Antología del cartel cubano realizado por mujeres, which gathers one hundred pieces made by thirty Cuban artists after 1959 at the Center for the Development of Visual Arts (CDAV, as per its initials in Spanish).

 

As part of the Festival will be also inaugurated a personal  exhibit by Colombian Marta Granados at the CDAV; another with works by artists from Cuba, United States and Iran at the  Centro Hispanoamericano de Cultura and a fourth one with designs by Swiss artists Gilles Gavillet and Vincent Devaut at the Fábrica de Arte Cubano.

 

The Higher Institute of Design will present an exhibit made by works of a group of students from this institute and from the Purdue University from United States which will give a look on women in the familiar and social contexts, likewise her imprint in the historic evolution.

 

The colloquiums Mujer-Cartel and Cartel with the participation of prestigious specialists and creators like Chilean Jorge Soto Veragua, Claudio Corrales from Costa Rica; Daniel Smith from the United States, Pierre Keller from Switzerland and Cuban Adelaida de Juan will session at the Fine Arts National Museum.  

 

The World Design Day will be celebrated on April 27 at the Martínez Villena Room of the Cuban Association of Writers and Artists (UNEAC), with the inauguration of an exhibit y Enrique Martínez, winner of the 2015 Eduardo Muñoz Bachs Prize, and the presentation of the Caja Alta Prizes conferred by UNEAC’s Graphic Design Section. 

 

The event has been organized by the National Council of Visual Arts, the Center for the Development of Visual Arts, the UNEAC and the Comité Prográfica Cubana directed by the relevant designer Héctor Villaverde, figure who inspired of these events.

 

The first edition of the Poster Festival took place in 2013, at the time of the 50th anniversary of the International Council of Graphic Design Associations, ICOGRADA, with the objective to consolidate in an event the revitalization this art expression has reached during the past years, especially in Cuba.
