Cuban Actor Jorge Perugorría Becomes Member of the Hollywood Academy

Havana.- The entry of Cuban actor Jorge Perugorría as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the United States (an institution with 683 members and deliver of the Oscars each year) today monopolizes headlines in national and international press media. Considered one of the most important faces of the Cuban cinema, Perugorría stands out in the local and foreign film scene for his charisma and versatility to embody the most diverse roles.

 

Films like "Miel para Ochún" y "La pared de las palabras" are a proof of his unquestionable talent, a gift he has also used behind the camera and manifested between cardboards and oils.

 

Recently, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the United States included new Latin American members, like Colombian director Ciro Guerra, Mexican filmmaker Israel Cardenas and Dominican Laura Amelia Guzmán.

 

After the strong criticism because the Oscar nominees included only white actors for the second consecutive year, the Academy announced changes to increase diversity among voters.
