fotofever presents its first exhibition in Arles around the theme of documentary photography

The fotofever START TO COLLECT program – encouraging the discovery and collection contemporary photography, continues its mission this summer during the international festival of photography, Les Rencontres d’Arles, with a group exhibition.

In collaboration with a selection of partner galleries, fotofever will create a dialogue between the works of ten artists, around the theme of documentary photography – a pioneering genre that to this day prevails and is constantly reinvented by contemporary artists.

The exhibition will be held from 3 July to 24 September 2017, in a beautiful 17th Century building, in the epicentre of historic Arles, owned by the Manuel Rivera-Ortiz Foundation.

Founded in 2009 by Manuel Rivera-Ortiz, a Puerto-Rican photographer, the foundation is dedicated to documentary photography and film. It supports photoreporters and photojournalists who depict the social realities of emerging and developing countries.

This new event is also the perfect opportunity for fotofever to reinforce its initiation program to collection, with:

• the price of each artwork clearly displayed
• a selection of START TO COLLECT works < 1,000 €
• an exhibition guide with advice to begin one’s collection
• exhibition visits with commentary
• a mediator present during the three months of the exhibition to accompany the public in their acquisitions
• LES P’TITS COLLECTIONNEURS (Kid’s program), an educational worksheet available for children to discover the exhibition and collection whilst having fun

“Far from the typical fair format, we wanted to create a real dialogue between the presented artists, their different cultural and social backgrounds, and show each with their own vision of our contemporary society.

The exhibition also aims to highlight documentary photography as a collectible,” explains Cécile Schall, founder of fotofever.
