The Cuban fashion goes back in artistic flight

Under the name of Nuevos Primas, the seventh edition of Art & Fashion, held in December at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, explored photography as protagonist of the event to capture through the lens, unique moments in which the design is expressed as art to unveil the creative concept of the designers.

"Art & Fashion is a biennial event where  plastic artists, designers, models, stylists, sewing, makeup artists, photographers, choreographers converge... to form a multidisciplinary team that offers the public a fashion show that --- in the opinion of the director Rafael Méndez --- reveals the artistic conception that inspired the designer to create the costume. "

This year twenty seven creators --- accompanied by the same number of photographers, who imposed a personal stamp on the performance of each model, through contrast, light, color, different levels --- enhanced the artistic intentions of costume in a group show which was exposed after the parade, at Art Factory and the Library of Cuba.

In Art and Fashion each presentation is a riot of music, where models perform dance and body language, whose movements reflect the essence of design and construction.

"We have traditionally worked with the staff of models of the company Actuar --- says Juan Carlos Marrero Urquiola, responsible for the production of art and soundtrack in this event---, because it requires a high degree of professionalism that we only find in the graduations of modeling Academy of this artistic agency that represents actors and models that currently constitutes the paradigm of quality in this field.”

"We design models portfolios divided by gender, skin color ..., based on the peculiarities of the artwork to be represented by each designer, and we have the support of two choreographers: Leidys Ramos and Abel Jané, who advised the mounting staging ".

Art and Fashion is not an ordinary parade, but a great performance which combines several art forms such as music, design, photography, dance ... in line with the proposal of each creator.

"The world of fashion in Cuba has evolved over the years, because it has been internationalized. Our models have been in America, through cultural exchanges; they have participated for the first time at Fashion Week in Bahamas, where they have shared with mannequins in the country, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago ... and in March 2015 we will make a presentation at the Miami Fashion Week and another one in Tampa ».
