Erik Olivera

Erik Olivera Rubio

(Havana, Cuba)

December 9, 1973

He graduated from Elemental Art School Paulita Concepción (1985-1988) and the Academy of Fine Arts San Alejandro (1996-1999).

His work is in private collections in Moscow, Japan, France, USA, Italy, Germany, Malaysia, Mexico, Canada and Norway, among other countries. He holds the First Prize of African Descent Contest, organized by the UNSI Havana, and his work Obbatalá (2010) is part of the Yevgeny Yevtushenko Museum's collection (poet, educator, actor and film director) in Moscow.

The work of Erik Olivera is inscribed in its own right in that portrait recovery trend that has been demonstrating in Cuban art since the early nineties. Although his images are just beginning to be recognized in the public scene through exhibitions or disclosure in journals, they manifest in my opinion a consistent improvement, rising, as to approach drawing of the similar, to the capacity to reflect the physical and psychological values of those characters that are the center of attention, all of which could turn him in a short or medium term in an outstanding artist in the genre.
