Estampa celebrates its 25th anniversary

The fair, which will take place from the 21st to the 24th of September 2017 at Matadero Madrid, once again seeks to further its objectives of promoting contemporary art collection in our country and Spanish galleries and art, within our borders and beyond, thanks to its communication and exchange programmes and international guests.

The Estampa fair is 25 years old and it has decided to celebrate this with different events whose protagonists will be Spanish galleries and collectors, as the hosts of our programmes for the international promotion and communication of the Spanish art scene and market.

Estampa is a major Spanish contemporary art fair. It brings together over eighty galleries, both Spanish and international, and constitutes the best market in our country. In 2017 it celebrates 25 years promoting Spanish galleries and public and private collectors of contemporary art.

As the main new initiative this year, the management of Estampa launches the Colecciona Meeting Point; this is a programme of special guests which brings together private collectors, collection consultants and organisers, institutional directors and professionals in the art market and art collection from all over Europe, and it will be coordinated by Eva Ruiz and her team in Arternative.

Likewise, for the first time, Estampa has prepared an international press programme to host international media, in collaboration with the offices of Turespaña in London, Berlin, Paris and Rome, inviting them to discover and explore the art scene and market in our country.

We will continue with the Residencies Exchange II. Estampa 2017 Curatorial Programme, coordinated by the Hablarenarte Association, which produced excellent results in the last edition. This year, it focuses on those in charge of the leading art residencies in Europe, who will be able to learn, first-hand, about the best contemporary art projects promoted by our galleries at Estampa.

All the international guests will have the opportunity to discover the evolution of contemporary art in our country, thanks to the debate forum entitled Contemporary Art in Spain. From the Transition to the Present Day. With the participation of the main protagonists, it will be coordinated and moderated by Rosina Gómez Baeza, former director of the ARCO Fair and one of our best senior cultural managers.

Our general galleries programme will be supervised by our Advisory Committee; this is composed of the curators Lorena Martinez de Corral, Alicia Ventura and Guillermo Espinosa, and the collectors Luis Caballero, Fernando Panizo, José Antonio Trujillo and Francisco Jaramillo, who is joining our committee this year.

For the third year in a row, our curator and member of the Estampa committee, Guillermo Espinosa, will be in charge of MAPA (MAP), a galleries section curated with a clear view to the discourses and approaches around art itself.

Our Colecciona at Estampa programme of symposia, forums and activities, together with the prizes, grants and residencies awarded at the fair, will complete this year’s activities.

We would like to express our gratitude for all the institutional and private backing we have received, and most particularly we wish to thank the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, Madrid Regional Government, Madrid City Council, TurEspaña and the Spanish State Secretariat for Tourism, Spanish Cultural Action, the Spanish Cooperation and Development Agency, as well as the Banco Santander Foundation, the Town Council of Alcobendas and DKV Seguros Médicos, for their constant support and collaboration.
