Art Deco Invades Havana

The Press Conference of the 12th Art Deco World Congress took place on Monday, and this is going to be held in Havana on March 14 – 21, 2013.

Taganana Hall, at Hotel Nacional de Cuba, housed the presentation of the event’s Organizing Committee, which is made up of experts from the National Council of Cultural Heritage (CNPC), Habana Deco group and the International Coalition of Art Deco Societies (ICADS).

The Congress will be in session during the mornings with theoretical meetings and magisterial lectures, and the afternoons will be taken to enjoy tours around Havana City. A “Deco week” is scheduled within the framework of the congress with an attractive cultural program made up of the National Ballet of Cuba, a series of movies, exhibitions and book launchings. The public will have access to all of these activities.

During the press conference, the organizing committee confirmed the participation of several academicians, collectors, communicators and historians from United States, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Spain, France, China, New Zealand, Australia and Nigeria. It’s important to note the attendance of Vicki Gold Levi, Alastair Duncan, an authority in terms of Art Deco and Art Nouveau, and Hermes Mallea, architect.
