Region Ø, a Latino Video-Art Festival in New York

Rey Juan Carlos I Center from New York University launched some days ago the call to the second edition of Region Ø, to take place on May 16 – 18, 2013, in this US city. Artists interested in participating can showcase their works from Feb. 15 to March 15, through the Internet, by sending the links to their videos on youtube, vimeo or the artist’s web –among other data– to the email info@regionzero.net.

The event is conceived for Spanish artists, artists from Latin America or the US, with Latin origins (older than 21 years). The theme is free and each creator can display up to two videos produced from 2009 to date, less than 10 minutes length.

Eva Mendoza Chandas is in charge of the choosing process and guardianship, and will be evaluating the originality of the proposals and their aesthetic and conceptual research. The chosen artists will be contacted by the organization in April.

Three mentions are also going to be delivered,500 dollars for each of them. The awarding jury will be made up of Chus Martinez, chief curator at New York’s Museo del Barrio, and Octavio Zaya, independent curator that worked at the Spanish Pavilion during the 55th Venice Art Biennial (2013).

Region Ø is an audiovisual term that is informally used to make reference to the word "worldwide". New York’s Latino Video-art Festival was first held in March 2011, and traveled around the world in 2012: Mexico, Cuba, Argentina, Spain and the US.
