ARCOmadrid closes today

The 32nd edition of ARCOmadrid kicked off yesterday, with foreign attendance climbing to 66 percent, the highest of the last years. 201 galleries from 27 countries are showcasing their artworks; over two thousand artists join 150 international professionals, members of acquisition boards, directors of museums and curators, as well as nearly 300 collectors from all over the world.

Through Feb. 17, pavilions 8 and 10 of Madrid’s fair will be hosting sections of the show, specially FOCUS Turkey, the event is dedicated to this country and its participation has been supported by its embassy in Spain, and the curatorship of Vasif Kortun, research and program director for SALT Istanbul, and Lara Fresko, writer and art professional.

Just as we have previously commented on, the fair model is being widened to curatorial perspectives, which allows galleries to exhibit outstanding aesthetic proposals in conjunction with their market purposes. OPENING: Jovenes Galerias,SOLO Projects (dedicated to Latin American art, with the curatorship of Inti Guerrero, Catalina Lozano, Gabriel Perez Barreiro, Alexia Tala and Cristiana Tejo) and SOLO Objects are going to be some of the stars.

As an alternative to the ups and downs of the traditional market of art, ARCO suggests Collect on line, which since Feb. 7 has been in charge of marketing over one thousand pieces (with values up to 5,000 euros) among those showcased by the galleries that participate in the central exhibition. This strategy is digitally joined by ARCO Bloggers, the web version of the Catalogue and the BiDi Codes of Outstanding Artists. Collect on line is complemented by the free consultancy service provided by the fair to introduce collections or buy artworks. First Collectors program, coordinated by Elisa Hernando, Arte Global consultant office, will be providing consultancy services.

ARCOmadrid has tons of initiatives and invites to share the experience. All you have to do is to follow the lead during the next three days.
