Latin American Stories. Works by Malba – Costantini Foundation

On June 7, Malba presented Latin American Stories. Works by Malba–Costantini Foundation, the first traveling exhibit from the permanent collection around major museums and galleries in Neuquén, San Juan, Mendoza, Salta, Cordoba and Rosario.

Based on the thorough selection by Marcelo E. Pacheco, head curator at Malba, the exposition culls 53 representative artworks ranging from the first vanguards of the 20th century all the way to the 2000s. Key pieces in the history of the Latin American arts, featuring such artists as Pedro Figari, Antonio Berni, Joaquín Torres-García, Xul Solar, Emilio Pettoruti, Hélio Oiticica, Alfredo Guttero, Miguel Covarrubias, Juan Batlle Planas, Emiliano Di Calvacanti, León Ferrari, Oscar Bony and Guillermo Kuitca, among other boldface names, are included.

This exhibit marks the beginning of the Malba Federal Program that pursues to strengthen ties between the public and the private on the one hand, and on the other hand to foster institutional relations. “The program came into being out of a strategic determination from the museum’s front office that, based on our institution’s second decade, has set out to export its stock, its contents and all of its experience,”says Malba president and founder Eduardo F. Costantini.

For her part, architect Claudia Lamas, MAC director, explains: “It’s extremely important for MAC’s current management, within the context the museum is ingrained right now, to have a thought for the citizens of Salta. We’re so proud to bring this set of artworks to all of them, pieces of amazing national and international significance harbored at Malba. We especially appreciate the trust the government of the Salta province has pinned on our institution, through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Education, let alone the possibility of being the museum that harbors this exhibit and being a part of this historic development for the province’s arts and culture.”

Latin American Stories was presented from January through March at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Neuquén, and at the Franklin Rawson Provincial Museum of Fine Arts in San Juan from March thru May. The Salta MAC is the third venue for this traveling exhibit that will remain open through September 1.
