Arttextum: New Contemporary Art Network

Madrid hosted on June 26 the presentation of Arttextum, Fabric of Cultural Agents inspired by Latin America, a project in which artists are shown as rivers with creative wealth that flow and modify the artistic field; and museums, galleries and other exhibition spaces are displayed as mountains bathed by those rivers.

Arttextum is based on the study of transference routes and ideas movement within the young artistic community, through the creation of maps that are different from the geographic one.

Based on the Ego Networks concept, the connections among cultural agents are explored, the inspiration among them, in order to create maps on artists and their social networks (creative hydrography), maps on art spaces (artistic topography) and maps related to the cultural climate of international art, finding in Latin America their reason to produce art.

This project, Frida Cano’s original idea, works based on formal analogies, so artists are shown as rivers with creative wealth that flow and modify the artistic field; the museums, galleries and other exhibition spaces are represented as mountains that give a boost to those rivers and sometimes block them creating lakes.

The information displayed –both the artist network and art spaces – comes from the recommendations made by the artists, who have said what and who are the places and people that make up the authentic artistic and cultural landscape these days.

The project specifically targets emerging artists, whose works keep a creative relation with the Latin American context and whose social commitment, from the artistic sector, has been permanent.
