Three Chilean Artists Called by Curator Jose Roca in “Historias del objeto”

The natural object, the domestic object and the politic one are tackled –respectively– by Patricia Dominguez, Isidora Correa and Claudio Correa in “Historias del objeto (Stories of the Object)”, an exhibition to be open on July 18 through August 23 at Gabriela Mistral Gallery. The artists were chosen by Colombian Jose Roca, director of FLORA Ars+Natura (Bogota) and assistant curator at Tate Gallery (London).

“Historias del objeto” puts together three different solo shows, which are linked by an element that –since Marcel Duchamp’s ready made– has been the key to artworks created since the 20th century to date: the object. Organized by Colombian Jose Roca, the second exhibition of Gabriela Mistral’s 2013 curatorial program gathers acclaimed artists from the contemporary Chilean scene: Patricia Dominguez, Isidora Correa and Claudio Correa, with projects that –quoting the curator– “propose a look at the artifact (the historical, natural or daily one) as a cultural symptom.”

Through interventions, pictures and sculptures, the authors deal with their own object stories. “There are multiple approaches: the object related to the construction of the natural (Patricia Dominguez); the daily life (Isidora Correa); and the historic narration (Claudio Correa). Such genres as the history painting, scenery and still life are reviewed from a present approach, by excavating, undermining and subverting the representation codes.”
