2017: Another Record Year for Sotheby´s Paris

A total of 273.6 million euros in sales–representing a 24.5 % increase from 2016–made 2017 a second exceptional year in a row for Sotheby’s Paris.

Highlights include: 20 world records achieved, 25% first-time buyers, 2/3 of buyers based outside of France, and almost 90% of lots sold in value.

The most important auctions were of the collection of French decorator Jacques Grange (28.4 million euros), Alain and Candice Fraiberger (15.3 million euros), and Eleanor Post Close and Antal Post de Bekessy (7 million euros).

Significantly, some of the most noteworthy world record prices achieved were for works by major European modern artists, including Pierre Soulages (6.1 million euros), Wilfredo Lam (4.4 million euros), Germaine Richier (3 million euros) and Hans Hartung (2.7 million euros).
