Oscar Winning Film to Open Panamanian Film Festival

Chilean film Una mujer fantástica, recently winner of the Oscar for the best foreign feature film, will open the sessions of the 7th International Film Festival of Panama (IFF), from April 5 to 11.

The executive director of the contest, Pituka Ortega, also announced the presence of its protagonist, Daniela Vega, the 28-year-old transgender actress and lyric singer who gives life to the character of Marina, under the direction of the multi-awarded Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Lelio.

'This is a great opportunity for the public to enjoy the work of one of the most versatile directors in the region ...', said the artistic director of the festival, Diana Sánchez, who said she was very happy because Vega will attend the opening day of the festival.

More than 140 guests including artists, directors and producers will attend the event to exchange their knowledge and experiences with the public, stated Ortega, who said that this year includes a new headquarters, in addition to extending once again the projections to the neighborhoods and the popular coastal strip, in this capital.

He pointed out that the agenda includes eight Panamanian films, of which five are winners of the Fondo Cine prize, while more than 10 percent of the program is of national products.
