Post- Pop. Beyond the Commonplace

This exhibition presents more than 200 works of art mainly produced between 1965 and 1975 in Portugal and England, highlighting the crucial importance of the British artistic and cultural context for the Portuguese artists—as well as the strong presence of British artworks in the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum's Modern Collection.

With special loans from the Arts Council of Great Britain and from the British Council in London, Post-Pop reveals the unity among the works of diverse artists in their divergence from the commonplace usually represented by Pop Art.

The exhibition features a number of works by English artists who conspicuously deviate from Pop Art – Bernard Cohen, Tom Phillips, Jeremy Moon, Allen Jones, among others –, alongside an even greater number works by Portuguese artists including Teresa Magalhães, Ruy Leitão, Eduardo Batarda, Menez, Nikias Skapinakis, Fátima Vaz, Clara Menéres, João Cutileiro, José de Guimarães, and many others.
