Latin American Film Festival Ends in Havana

Havana.- The 39th International Festival of the New Latin American Cinema shows its programming until today in the cinemas of this capital, after recognizing the best films with the Choral Awards.

The Argentine film Alanis, directed by Anahí Berneri, winner of the Coral Prize for Best Fiction Feature, will be screened tonight at the Acapulco cinema.

Then, in the same place, the Cuban Sergio & Serguei, by Ernesto Daranas, favorite of the public of the 39th Festival will be exhibited.

Of the 34 awards given yesterday in the Charles Chaplin movie theater, 25 were at the hands of women and, precisely, several professionals called attention to the role of women in the stories of several films.

Other works in billboard are La novia del desierto (Argentina), of Valeria Pivaro and Maria Cecilia Atán, that reached the laurel of Debut Feature; while the Special Prize of the Debut Feature Jury was achieved by the Colombian Matar a Jesús, by Laura Mora.

This last film was also distinguished with the collateral prizes of Casa de las Américas and the Glauber Rocha of the Latin American News Agency Prensa Latina.

Both films will be screened at the cinema 23 y 12, where they will also show Zama, from the Argentinean director Lucrecia Martel who won the Coral Prize for Direction, and her film the FIPRESCI Award (International Federation of the Film Critics) and the Best Sound and Artistic Direction prizes.

You can also see features of great interest in different rooms such as Las dos Irenes, by Brazilian Fabio Meira; Los buenos demonios, by Gerardo Chijona (Cuba); and the American documentary Chavela, by Catherine Gund, dedicated to an essential figure of Mexican folk music, Chavela Vargas.
