Visual Arts in FERIARTE 2010: The Classic and the Modern

A considerable chunk of the upcoming Fair of Art & Antiques organized by IFEMA –slated from Nov. 20 to 28 in Madrid- will be the plastic art exhibition, especially of painting, that this time around will be embracing great masters from the 15th to the 19th centuries, together with some of the boldface names of modernity.

FERIARTE is no doubt one of the greatest meeting grounds for lovers of painting and the fine arts of all time. It’s a one-and-only opportunity to look up at and acquire artworks of tremendous historic and artistic values, like ancient paintings from the medieval and Renaissance periods with a strong hold on the market right now. The grand tour also comprises mosaics and relieves hailing from different cultures, as well as canvases and engravings from the most representative styles in the history of the arts. European authors like Lucas Cranach I, Bartolo di Fredi Cini, Pierre Pourbus, Maestro de los Santos Juanes, Francisco Comontes and Pieter Coecke van Aelst, among many others, will be high on the list at the fair in different galleries and antique shops, such as Galeria Bernat, Soraya Cartategui, Ana Chiclana and A. Iruretagoyena.

Modern art will be rubbing elbows with the classics, with celebrated creators like Pablo Picasso, Antoni Tàpies, Joan Miró and Miquel Barceló topping the list. These names are highly coveted by many exhibitors, such as the Galería Manuel Barbié and Manel Mayoral Galería de Arte. There’ll also be pieces from authors like José María Sert Badia, Óscar Domínguez, Salvador Dalí, Antoni Clavé and Celso Lagar Arroyo, as well as bolder proposals, like the ones mounted by the Kotobuki Gallery with Japan’s Kitano Tsunetomi. Direct sales will include paintings from a number of prestigious galleries, like Victor I Fills Art-Gallery and Rafael Lozano Art Gallery, among many others.

FERIARTE organizers are confident on the absolute success of this 34th edition because the international market of art and antiques has held on to and even increased its toehold of the deluxe purchase-sale sector, even going other segments one better in the middle of the ongoing economic crisis. The change of consumer trends for this kind of pieces –driven by recession- has now shifted the limelight on arts and antiques as a much more feasible option, and that view has been undisputedly demonstrated in specialized research studies, like the one conducted by The European Fine Art Foundation.
