Lazaro Galdiano Museum will be showcasing in February the first foreign collection in our country. It’s all about Argentina-based Jozami Collection, which puts together over one thousand pieces that range from the 19th century to date. The particular characteristic of this collection, driven bypassion and desire, is its political commitment and social sensibility.
Jozami collection was created nearly 40 years ago in Buenos Aires, as an initiative of Anibal Yazbeck Jozami, a sociologist, entrepreneur and academician, dedicated to foreign trade and international relations, and current Rector ofTres de Febrero National University (UNTREF is the Spanish acronym) and creator of its museum (MUNTREF).A long way of aesthetic search that was also enriched thanks to his wife and journalist, Marlise Ilhesca, both are members of Reina Sofia National Museum Foundation.
The collection is made up of two sections: the first one is related to the modern and contemporary art from the Southern Cone and the second one tackles international contemporary photography and video-art.
The eighty artworks to be displayed in Madrid have been chosen by curator Diana B. Wechsler. The show invites viewers to revisit Lazaro Galdiano Museum through the dialogue established between both collections.
"Entre tiempos" exhibitis set to be showcased in two different formats at Lazaro Galdiano Museum: Modern Spain building is going to show a significant repertoire of figurative works from the Southern Cone. And the Museum’s halls will be witnessing a personal and thematic dialogue established among videos, pictures and Lazaro Collection’s pieces.
Artworks created by Antonio Berni, Luis Felipe Noe, Luis Seoane, Liliana Porter, Joaquin Torres Garcia, Pedro Figari, Xul Solar and Gabriela Sacco, stand out among the figurative works to be visiting Madrid. And the Museum is going to house the works of Christian Boltanski, Vik Muniz, Ana Mendieta, Leandro Elrich and Tunga, among others.
This show is aimed at paying tribute to the work of these prestigious collectors of Latin American and international art, who have recently joined Reina Sofia National Museum Foundation.
Lazaro Galdiano Foundation and Anibal Jozami collection are going to publish a catalogue on the exhibition.
Furthermore, different activities have been scheduled for children and families, including workshops, theme visits and round tables.
