Chubby Chinese in Havana

These are sculptures by the Chinese artist Xu Hong Fei who arrived to celebrate 500 years of founded Havana. It is a song to beauty in all its forms, to music, to love and to life in a general sense. Initially, the sculptures were located in some of the most populous areas of the city for a few days and since this Wednesday they are all gathered in the Chinatown until January 18.

The exhibition, titled Damas Gordas, has traveled around 36 cities around the world, including Havana. First, they were in the Parque de La Fraternidad and the Boulevar de San Rafael. The artist conceived the majority in fiberglass except one, entitled The Kiss. This is one of the most iconic in the collection, made of bronze and that has been donated to Havana.

As the artist has expressed in different media, the idea is to reflect the daily life of any person regardless of nationality and wanted to do so outside a closed space precisely to cause interaction.
