SKIRA Editore. Hokusai. The Master´s Legacy

The unchallenged master of the ukiyo-e genre, Katsushika Hokusai (1760 - 1849) is renowned for his great versatility and for the wide variety of subjects he depicted: from landscapes and nature paintings to portraits of kabuki actors, warriors, beautiful woman and even ghosts and spirits.

This magnificent and comprehensive pictorial survey presents a selection of more than 200 works - including the celebrated Great Wave print and the equally famous series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji - offering a reading of Hokusai's impact on both Japanese and European art.

Hokusai. The Master's Legacy also includes a broad selection of works by Hokusai's contemporary, Keisai Eisen, whose extensive œuvre of seductive female portraits provides a comparison and a context for one of Japan's greatest and most influential artists.
