Visit of British royalty to the statue of Lennon in Havana

The John Lennon Park and the Yellow Submarine Cultural Center, located in the neighborhood of Vedado in Havana, witnessed the visit of Prince Charles of England and his wife Camila, Duchess of Cornwall.

While a musical band played songs by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, their Royal Highnesses toured the emblematic place and greeted the neighbors affably. The Scudery of Classic English Motorcycles from Havana and the English Car Club of the capital completed the panorama and lined up to greet the illustrious visitors.

A special moment was the tribute made by Prince Charles and his wife Camila in the bank where the work of the Cuban sculptor José Villa Soberón is located and which recalls the musician John Lennon. The royal couple agreed to sit next to the sculpted image for the delight of photographers and the press in general.

The visual artist Alejandro Sautié Viera, who develops an artistic project related to the British presence in Cuba and will have a performative participation in the Havana Biennial, also talked with the visitors. According to Sautié the Prince and his wife were interested in his project called The Beatles car.

After their arrival in Havana, their Royal Highnesses placed a wreath before the monument to the National Hero José Martí, in the Plaza de la Revolución and visited the Memorial that exhibits a sample of the life and work of the Master.

From the cultural point of view should be highlighted, in addition to this visit, the tour of the Historic Center of Havana in which the royal couple was interested in the conservation of national heritage and unveiled a bronze statue in honor of the writer and father of the English language William Shakespeare. They also enjoyed the performances of the Camerata Romeu, in the Church of San Francisco de Asís and the La Colmenita Children's Theater Company, both groups Excelencias Cuba Award.

In the same way, they visited the Acosta Danza Academy headquarters and yesterday night they attended a gala at the Gran Teatro de La Habana "Alicia Alonso" where important figures from the National Ballet and Contemporary Dance of Cuba paraded as well as the Conjunto Folklórico Nacional and Acosta Danza.
