Omara is Cuba: tour of the Cuban singer in 17 countries

The famous Cuban singer Omara Portuondo will perform from April 19 until August 31 the first part of the «Omara is Cuba» tour that includes 33 concerts in 17 countries.

At a press conference held at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, with the presence of the Buena Vista Social Club Diva, it was announced that this musical journey will begin at the Regent Theater in Los Angeles, California, and will continue with 9 presentations in New York, Chicago, Wisconsin, Minnesota and other states of North America.

Holland, Hungary, Singapore, South Korea, Poland, Canada, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, Greece, France, England, Turkey, Belgium and Finland will also enjoy the versatility and virtuosity of Omara that will be accompanied by young Cuban musicians Roberto Fonseca, on the piano, Andrés Coayo, on percussion, Ruly Herrera on drums and bass Yandy Martínez.

Ariel Jiménez Portuondo, representative of the popular Omara, National Music Prize, 2006, assured that this will be «the most intimate tour, the most universal presence» and that although it will be the last in very distant countries, like those of the Asian continent, it will not be her farewell to international stages.

At the meeting, the extraordinary musician Roberto Fonseca confessed to feeling very happy «because this is a tour I have always dreamed of doing» and added: «I have always said that there are two people for whom I would leave my career aside to serve them: Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo»,

Later, referring to the name of the tour, he declared: «If today there is a singer who can represent what Cuban culture is; If there is a singer who in any scenario can put the name of Cuba very high, I think it is Omara Portuondo because she has gone through all the styles and maintains her Cuban identity».

Jiménez Portuondo also announced that this unique tour will continue in October in Mexico and then in November Omara will perform in South America, «and we will finish here in December with a great concert with Roberto Fonseca and other national and international guests».
