Rachel Valdés presented “Insight” at Galeria Mayoral, Barcelona

Cuban artist Rachel Valdés presented her solo exhibition “Insight” at Galeria Mayoral in Barcelona, open to the public from November 13 to December 10, 2025, at Carrer del Consell de Cent, 286, L’Eixample, 08007 Barcelona.

The exhibition marked a new phase in Valdés’s ongoing exploration of perception, light, and the experience of seeing.

In this project, the artist focused on questioning how the visible is perceived, examining the space between what is real and what is mental—between what exists outside and what is constructed internally through observation.

Valdés worked with light, color, and reflection as her main materials, emphasizing their changing nature depending on perspective, distance, or momentary intensity.

As the artist stated, her work is “an inquiry into how the eye, the body, and consciousness participate in the act of seeing.” Her intention was to create experiences that encouraged viewers to move and question the stability of what they see, activating a more aware and present perception rather than representing something fixed.

In Insight, painting and sculpture came together—two languages that have coexisted throughout her career. Painting allowed Valdés to explore the internal and the transformation of color layer by layer, while in sculpture, color emerged from space, reflection, and light.

The exhibition built a bridge between the sensory and the mental, the material and the intangible, connecting different dimensions of perception in her artistic practice.
