Atelier 1022 Opens in Wynwood

Atelier 1022 studio and gallery kicked off in Wynwood, Miami’s fine art district, with the opening of the ArtVergnügen!... the pleasure of art, a selection of paintings, mixed-media and photography by resident artists Ellie Perla, Susana Perla-Mendoza and Carlos Rodriguez-Feo.

The opening of Atelier 1022, now unfolding in Wynwood’s youngest gallery, happened together with the monthly Second Saturday Art Gallery Walk in Wynwood, that this time around brought novelist Carola Perla as the guest of honor for the launch of her book Gibbin House,* a historic novel dealing with post-war’s Europe.

Some of the institution’s future activities will include hard rock music and art with bands performing live and steam-punk fashion shows. There’ll also be film and documentary presentations, stories and young art, plus the history of photography and a whole lot more.

The Wynwood Art District and the Wynwood Fashion District are sub-districts of this Miami neighborhood that harbor over 70 art galleries, museums and art collections. Wynwood is right across the street from the Design District. Atelier 1022 is just a few minutes from the Rubell Family’s Art Collection on 29th Street. Restaurants and nightlife, with hotspots as the Wynwood Kitchen, Joey’s Restaurant and Electric Pickle are all within walking distance. The area also includes the new and old stores of The Shops at Midtown Miami. Atelier 1022 will remain open during the monthly Second Saturday Art Gallery Walk in Wynwood. On-demand individual or group visits can be booked.

Atelier 1022 (2732 NW 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL, 33127) is the result of a collaboration among members of the Perla family, artists, writers and photographers. Ellie Perla, a Romanian-German artist, had this to say about the foundation of the Atelier 1022 art gallery: “As a woman artist, I feel responsible for sharing something positive with the world. It’s like being a mother. In the same way, the artist becomes both the mother and the father of many young artists. For me creating art is a matter of ethics and integrity, a matter of giving hope.”
