Arturo Montoto’s “Open Studio”

Artist Arturo Montoto is going to inaugurate, on September 28 at 6 p.m., a display of his work within the framework of the opening of his new workshop, located in Maximo Gomez corner to Lamas, in Guanabacoa. This building, which belonged to the ancient El Progreso society and remained abandoned for decades, has been rescued by the artist after an arduous rehabilitation process. The space of his new studio can be arranged as a multipurpose exhibition hall, where the artist is not only looking forward to creating his work but to exhibiting it and inviting other artists and curators to create projects for this space. Likewise, the artist will be giving workshops for free aimed at young people and adults with skills for visual arts.

This time, Montoto, who is also a curator, has put together nearly 15 small-format pieces that feature the traditional visual characteristics of his work and represent architectural spaces and such elements as fruits and objects, most of which are oil paintings and two pieces are temperas, and they will be shown with a group of 9 bronze sculptures produced in Italy and previously exhibited in his Agua y Metal solo show in La Acacia Gallery, 2007.

The display will be opened by writer Leonardo Padura, 2012 National Literature Award, and author of the catalogue. It will be open to the public throughout October 2013, 4 p.m. - 9 p.m.
