Artist Fernando Maselli’s “Hierophanies (Hierofanías)” is going to be opened on June 5, 20:00h, at CEART (Tomás & Valiente Art Center), Fuenlabrada (Madrid), C/ Leganés, 51 (Sala C Verde).
“Hierophanies” is an intellectual and empirical approach to the work of philosopher Mircea Eliade, who coined that term to refer to the awareness in nature of the existence of sacred things. In this sense, Hierophanies photographic series is made up of pictures taken in sceneries that are closely related to different religious traditions. These images lack human presence or any signs of it, and they feature a halo of mystery and silence aimed at leading viewers into a moral and sentimental reflection on nature and the role it has played in our religion concept.
Fernando Maselli tries to analyze, from a rational and empiric approach, these natural sceneries that have been considered sacred by different cultures. The Hierophany concept has allowed him to get closer to these places as a researcher in an effort to find out the role played by landscapes in our religion concept. Maselli develops this project by following certain questions: is there actually “anything” in these places?… if there is “something” … can nature become impregnated with that “something”, just as many religious trends affirm?; and the question he thinks matters the most: Has nature inspired a religious feeling in mankind?
Fernando Maselli (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1978) studied photography and graphic design at Martín A. Malharro Fine Arts School (Mar de Plata, Argentina). His work has been awarded in different events.
