Cosme Proenza, above every egoism

By Germán Veloz Placencia

Holguin. - Painter Cosme Proenza, as a collector of his own creations, is above fatuous egoism, as evidenced in the recently opened exhibit in Casa Marco in the capital city of this Cuban province.

From this fruitful career, which he defines with absolute reason as the result of constantly combining work and the study of the history of universal art, he shares now seven valuable original painting including Alba, la Virgen de la Santísima Caridad del Cobre and pices from the series Mujer con Sombrero and Los Dioses Escuchan.

Some of the paintings coincide with exquisite printed reproductions by Collage Ediciones after the laudable photographic work of Rodolfo Martinez, something that Cosme Proenza qualifies as unique in this kind of cultural event.

According to his statement to the press, the artist does not remember any record where the Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets has resorted to this way of facilitating the purchase of paintings duplicates in such an easy way and at these prices, something conceived with the enjoyment stripped from every commercial intention.

The arts exhibit, thanks to the effort of the Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets and the Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) in Holguin province, as well as curator Nelson Mulet’s hard work, is part of the activities to celebrate the 68th birthday of the painter.

He mentioned to have plans regarding the pictorial components of San Isidoro cathedral inHolguin, just like he did before with the one in Bayamo. It is a commitment with the authorities of the Catholic Church in the province and with culture in general, with no payment.

“To create culture for free so others can enjoy it I believe to be a good action. Love to do so I have plenty”, he declared.
