Alejandro Robaina’s guayabera shirt to be part of Sancti Spiritus’ patrimony

Sancti Spíritus.- With the donation of a guayabera shirt that belonged to Alejandro Robaina, famous tobacco producer whose name identifies a cigars brand, the collection of this type of shirts preserved in Sancti Spiritus province reaches the number of 209.

During the donation ceremony of this beige long-sleeved guayabera, Hiroshi Robaina, grandson of the Pinar del Rio native farmer who died in 2010, confessed ACN news service that it is a real pleasure that a piece of clothing that belonged to the mythical tobacco grower to be part of the history of the nation and that joins other shirts that belonged to important personalities.

He said that it is very difficult to remember when his grandfather wore this guayabera specifically, because he used to wear these shirts very often that are very confortable for cigar smokers for the great amount of pockets they have.

Hiroshi Robaina is a family tradition successor and he is also considered an experienced producer after having “lived” some 20 harvests.

He remembered that it is forbidden to smoke on planes but when his grandfather travelled he always took with him some leaves to chew while flying, something for which   these type of shirts was very useful, he affirmed.

As part of the activity celebrated at the Guayabera House, Robaina exchanged with tobacco producers from Sancti Spíritus, second tobacco  producer province in the country after Pinar del Río, a time during which they talked about their experiences and praised the quality of the cigar made in the Island.

He confessed how important it is the competence between the two provinces—Pinar del Rio and Sancti Spiritus—and assured that tobacco in the central region is very sweet and when mixed with that of the Western region a very fine variety is obtained.

Finally Hiroshi stated that from the almost 30 brands of cigars existing in the country, only Hoyos de Monterrey and Vegas Robaina are recognized for their origin names and that Alejandro Robaina is the only Cuban that gave name to one of these brands the Island exports to many countries, while he was alive.
