Jazz Plaza 2016: Cuba’s Jazz Fiesta

Reveling in a new edition of the Jazz Plaza International Festival is one of the invitations Paradiso, a cultural tourism agency managed by Cuban company Artex S.A., has issued to attendees of the 36th International Tourism Fair in Cuba.

According to the Organizing Committee, the Festival, scheduled to take place in Havana on December 15-18, will feature the participation of instrumentalists from Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Spain, Netherlands, United States, Australia and Cuba, who are going to blend the most contemporary trends of the genre.

The big jazz celebration in Cuba is ready to gather acclaimed and talented performers from the turf, such as César López, a member artist of Musicaliaagency’s catalog, also run by Artex, as well as Roberto Fonseca, Alejandro Falcon, Eduardo Sandoval and Gaston Joya, among others.

The event will have the Mella Theater, the Plaza de la Revolucion Municipality’s Culture House and Pabellón Cuba as the main venues in Havana. It will also stretch out to the rest of the island nation with a well-assorted artistic program.

The 32nd edition of Jazz Plaza International Festival will be broaching matters related to the influence of the genre on dance. In the same breath, it features performances by the Irene Rodriguez and Lizt Alfonso companies, as well as Cuba’s National Ballet Company.

Handicrafts exhibits, photographic displays, screening of audiovisual productions, performing arts presentations and master classes will also be close at hand during the event, with jazz as the guiding light.

Within the framework of FITCuba 2016, Paradiso also invites attendees to participate in Fiesta del Fuego, July 3-9, in Santiago de Cuba, and the International Festival of the New Latin American Cinema, slated for December 8-18 in Havana.

There’s also an interesting invitation to attend the third “Habanarte” Cuban Culture Festival, September 8-18, which this time around will introduce the first Havana International Music Forum. Entitled Primera Linea, the forum will have a program made up of lectures, business fairs, concerts and professional visits -scheduled for Sept. 14-17. This is an excellent opportunity to explore Havana and its music. Don’t let it slip away.
