Sounds from Cuba in SXSW Festival

The avalanche of musicians coming from the United States to Cuba, all of them interested in showing their art in Cuba will have a similar action in the Festival South by Southwest (SXSW) that takes place every spring in the city of Austin, Texas, United States.

On March 18, the SXSW will host Sounds from Cuba, a showcase presented by Roads & Kingdoms and Fábrica de Arte Cubano (FAC, after its initials in Spanish) in collaboration with the Spanish Society of Authors and Publishers (SGAE) and organized for the professionals of the music industry worldwide.

Telmary, Yissy & BandAncha, Dayme Arocena, X Alfonso—and his musical project La Flota—and Kelvis Ochoa are the Cuban musicians that will star trip, led by X Alfonso himself, which is already seen a milestone in the history of musical relations between both countries in the last 50 years.

South by Southwest is considered a mega event that includes presentations, conferences and showcases from the music, cinema and technology industries. Since its first edition in 1987, it has continued to grow in both scope and size every year until this present edition, opened by President Barack Obama on March 11, a few days before announcing his visit to Cuba.

In 2005, the event gathers more than 30 000 professionals from the music industry and musicians from 62 countries, who performed for six nights in more than 100 locals and spaces of the city.

Sounds from Cuba will take place on March 18 from 20:00 to 02:00 at Austin’s Speakeasy nightclub.
