Bilbao is preparing to host another major edition of FIG Bilbao, the International Printmaking and Art on Paper Festival, which will celebrate its 14th edition from 27 to 30 November 2025. With 60 exhibitors and more than 500 artists, the event strengthens its reputation as one of the most important printmaking fairs in Southern Europe. This year’s programme places special focus on women artists, Taiwan as guest country, and the 40th anniversary of Portugal’s historic printmaking centre.
Women in Print: Visibility and Creative Dialogue
More than 150 women artists will take part in this edition, continuing FIG Bilbao’s commitment to promoting female voices in printmaking.
The annual Art & Women Roundtable will once again address issues such as social pressures, gender expectations and artistic recognition. This year’s guest speaker is art historian and communicator Sara Rubayo, known for her work highlighting women who have been overlooked in art history.
Taiwan as Guest Country: Between Technique, Spirit and Innovation
A significant highlight of the 2025 edition is Taiwan’s participation as guest country. Curated by cultural manager Diana Chow, the programme introduces key contemporary printmakers such as Chingyu Chang and Huang Shu-Ching.
Chow—artist, curator and long-time resident in Navarra—has become an essential link between Taiwanese contemporary art and Europe. Her approach merges technique, spirituality, tradition and modernity.
FIG Bilbao will also welcome Liao Shiou-ping, widely regarded as the father of contemporary Taiwanese printmaking.
Portugal’s Serigraphy Legacy: 40 Years of Creation
The fair will also join the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the Portuguese Centre of Serigraphy, founded in 1985 to bring contemporary printmaking to a wider audience.
A selection of Portuguese and Basque artists will take part in this special showcase, featuring renowned figures such as architect Álvaro Siza, Basque painter Eamun, lithography master Marçal, and Vieira da Silva, one of Portugal’s most celebrated printmakers of the 20th century.
