Art Basel has announced the participating galleries and initial highlights of its 2026 Hong Kong edition, alongside the introduction of a new curatorial team. Bringing together established and emerging voices from around the world, the fair reinforces Hong Kong’s role as a key global hub for art in Asia and beyond, with a strong focus on innovation, regional diversity, and future generations of artists, galleries, and curators.
Angelle Siyang-Le, Director of Art Basel Hong Kong, emphasizes that the 2026 edition celebrates Hong Kong’s unique position as Asia’s global cultural gateway, supported by its tax-free status, free-port heritage, logistical efficiency, multilingual accessibility, and international connectivity. The edition will debut a new curatorial team for the Encounters, Film, and Conversations sectors, as well as the inaugural Echoes sector. Art Basel Hong Kong will also continue to strengthen its local, regional, and global partnerships, expanding its platform for cultural exchange and professional networks.
The 2026 edition will welcome 32 galleries participating in Art Basel Hong Kong for the first time, spanning Australia, Japan, South Korea, Greater China, Turkey, France, Georgia, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United States. Notable newcomers include A Lighthouse called Kanata (Tokyo), The Commercial (Sydney), Pilevneli (Istanbul), Uffner & Liu (New York), Galería Casado Santapau (Madrid), and 1 Mira Madrid / 2 Mira Archiv (Madrid).
A major highlight of Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 is the launch of Echoes, a new sector dedicated to works created within the past five years. Featuring ten curated booths, each presenting up to three artists, Echoes offers insight into the most current artistic practices. Highlights include Max Estrella (Madrid), presenting Tiffany Chung’s embroidered maps of spice routes and Miler Lagos’s carved book sculptures, and Double Q Gallery (Hong Kong), with an immersive installation by Natalia Załuska.
Encounters will introduce a collective curatorial model led by Mami Kataoka, Director of the Mori Art Museum, together with Isabella Tam, Alia Swastika, and Hirokazu Tokuyama. The city-wide Public Program will return with free events, including Film and Conversations, strengthening engagement with local communities.
The Film Program will be curated by artist and curator Ellen Pau, marking the first time an artist leads this program, while Conversations will include a day of talks guest-curated by Venus Lau, Director of Museum MACAN in Jakarta.
Art Basel and M+ will co-commission a new work for the M+ Facade by Shahzia Sikander, opening on 23 March 2026. The fair will also present the second edition of Zero 10, its initiative dedicated to digital art.
With strong participation across its Galleries, Discoveries, Insights, and Echoes sectors, and coinciding with major biennales across Asia, Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 reaffirms its position as a central meeting point for the global contemporary art community.
