Born in 1978 in Portugal, Marco Godinho is a nomadic explorer of the geographical, political and philosophical margins and boundaries of the world in which he lives. His immersive project will look at the relationships that mankind entertains with the sea.
Upon entering the Luxembourg Pavilion, visitors will be immersed in a setting that adapts to the architectural scale of the Sale d'Armi. Acting simultaneously as an artwork, spatial environment, daily poetry readings and a publication, Written by Water will be like a living organism unfolding in the monumental building's structure from North to South. In an odyssey that takes the reverse path of today's migratory routes across the Mediterranean, visitors will be invited to 'read' the poetic traces of the artist's journeys around the Mediterranean borders, immersing them in a library of invisible stories written by the sea.
