Spain joins PINTA MIAMI 2018

PINTA MIAMI is preparing for its 12TH edition. After the success of sales and public reached in recent years, in 2018 stands out the presence of Spain within its Pinta Countries Section, which aims to strengthen the Ibero-American character of the fair. One more year, PINTA MIAMI is celebrated in the Mana Wynwood space, located in the 'Miami Art District'.

Founded in 2007 by Diego Costa Peuser, PINTA MIAMI was conceived as an international fair focused on modern and contemporary art in Latin America. This year, with the inclusion of Spain in its official program, it becomes the platform par excellence for the internationalization of Ibero-American art in the United States. Considered in 2010 by MoMA PS1 as one of the most important art events, it has maintained its prestige thanks to the quality of the participating galleries, the attractiveness of large guest collections, and its curatorial projects.

The PINTA MIAMI 2018 Main Section will gather 60 galleries that will present works of artists of Ibero-American origin in dialogue as well as others from different parts of the world. This year, in addition, we will have the Pinta Platform section, curated by Roc Laseca, which aims to contribute to the visibility of unique pieces of modern and contemporary art, among other curators at the forefront; as well as a Section of Projects with installations of great format curated by the commissioner Ysabel Pinyol, and Pinta Editions, where to discover rare editions of consecrated artists.

Among the special events of 2018, the tributes to Celia Sredni de Birbragher, Founder and Director of Art Nexus magazine, stand out for her work of more than forty years promoting Latin American art; and Sofía Ímber, journalist and former director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Caracas, for her contribution to journalism, art criticism and the development of the Latin American art scene.

SPAIN AT POINT OF VIEW

In its 12th edition, PINTA MIAMI consolidates its Ibero-American focus with the presence of Spain - which will present some of its most important galleries - thus becoming the main Ibero-American art fair in the world. The project will be coordinated by the Spanish Amaya Ortuondo, formerly Collector Manager at ARCOmadrid.

Spain joins the Pinta Countries Section, which this year has the participation of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico, with a zoning arranged by countries.

YARA SONSECA, COMMISSIONER OF THE SECTION SPAIN

Yara Sonseca Mas is one of the names that resonate most strongly in this new edition of PINTA MIAMI, being the person responsible for curating the space dedicated to Spain.

Yara Sonseca Mas is an art historian with a solid background behind her. As head of the Exhibitions Department of La Casa Encendida (Madrid), a function she held for ten years, she coordinated, programmed and commissioned several emerging art projects, as well as exhibitions and publications dedicated to Antonin Artaud, Louise Bourgeois, John Cage, Joseph Kosuth and Andy Warhol, among others. As curator, highlights the exhibitions 'Beckett films' on the work of Samuel Beckett for the Andalusian Center of Contemporary Art of Seville; 'Muestrario', by José Antonio Suárez Londoño for La Casa Encendida, the CAPC of Bordeaux and the MAM of Medellín, and the exhibition of young art Circuitos organized by the Community of Madrid.

A SPANISH COLLECTION

In its commitment to Spanish art, PINTA MIAMI will also present, within the framework of its Collections Program and for the first time in Miami, the INELCOM Contemporary Art Collection, one of the most important Corporate Collections in Spain. The exhibition will be curated by Javier Quilis, founder of the INELCOM company and the Collection, and will be accompanied by a series of events and private visits.

The INELCOM Contemporary Art Collection is a long-term cultural project with the aim of improving the Spanish cultural heritage and betting on new talents, in addition to incorporating already established artists. In keeping with the INELCOM company's commitment to the environment, the works of the collection revolve around issues such as sustainability and the possibility of a harmonious relationship between society and the nature that surrounds it.

The Collection is currently composed of 218 works by 79 artists that include painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, film, video and installation, among which we find Rosa Barba, Johanna Calle, Antoni Muntadas, Andrea Canepa, Bruce Conner, Juan Muñoz, Joan Jonas, Julião Sarmento, Antony McCall, Steve McQueen, Jordi Colomer, Ernesto Neto and Damián Ortega, among others. INELCOM also contributes its engineering, experience, knowledge and productive capacity in collaborations with artists, as is the case of its collaboration with the artist Carsten Höller for the creation of the light piece '7.8 Hz'.

THE SECTIONS OF PINTA MIAMI 2018

PINTA MIAMI - Crossing Cultures presents six sections in this edition: Main Section, Pinta Countries, Visible Project, Pinta Platforms, Projects Section and Pinta Editions.

Main Section

One more year, PINTA MIAMI will gather in its Main Section around 60 galleries from Latin America, the United States and Europe, which will present works by more than 300 artists. A space will be established for the consecrated artists such as Carlos Cruz-Díez, Carmen Herrera, Fernando Botero, Iván Contreras Brunet, Jesús Rafael Soto, Jorge Eielson, Julio Le Parc, Lydia Okumura, Marta Boto, Waltercio Caldas and Wilfredo Lam, among others, and also to the new proposals, becoming a place for discovery.

Pint Countries section

The Section will count, in this next edition, with the participation of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain and Mexico. A curator from each country will be responsible for the selection of the galleries, which will present one or two artists, taking into account the relevance and quality of them. Guided tours, conferences and exclusive events focused on each of them will be organized.

Visible project

In the early seventies in Caracas (Venezuela), Claudio Perna conducted a series of experiments under the title of "Infiltraciones", images of classic paintings projected and interrupted by the bodies of the artist's friends and his own. This idea of "infiltrating" the world of art with other people's bodies serves as a metaphor for what today has become the main way of relating to art: the intensive combination of works and visitors typical of the fair format. The project is curated by Jesús Fuenmayor.

Pinta Platforms section

For its 12TH edition, Pinta Miami "Crossing Cultures" launches Pinta Platforms, an innovative program for galleries curated by Roc Laseca. The initiative is presented as a group of cabinets to highlight an artist, and is a unique opportunity for gallerists to expose their artist represented in a unique way. Galleries from Spain, the United States and Latin America participate.

Projects Section

This year, the fair presents a new section curated by Ysabel Pinyol, curator of Mana Contemporary (Miami, Jersey City, and Chicago) and Co-Founder of Mana Residences, where large-scale installations of Latin American visual artists will be exhibited.

Pinta Editions

In this section, different editorials will present a series of editions made in collaboration with recognized artists, giving place to a unique opportunity to discover rare and valuable pieces up close.

DIEGO COSTA PEUSER, FOUNDER OF THE FAIR

Costa Peuser (Buenos Aires, 1964) is a cultural manager specializing in Latin American art and co-founder and director of the magazine Arte al Día Internacional, one of the most important bilingual Latin American art magazines in the world.

Peuser is also the editor since 1988 of the Art Directory of the Americas and founder of Arteaméricas, the first specialized fair in Latin American art. His most talked about projects include the creation of Buenos Aires Art Week; and the foundation of the Buenos Aires Photo fairs (2005), PINTA New York, PINTA London, PINTA Miami Lima Photo (2010) and Peru Contemporary Art - PARC (2013).

Since 2011 he has played a key role in the "Un Techo para mi País" (A roof for my country) foundation, with which he organized the Art Techos event in the last two editions of Art Basel Miami Beach, which brings together artists to raise funds for the construction of housing in the less favored sectors of the continent.

As co-creator and current director of the influential art fair PINTA Miami, he has promoted the opening of a horizontal dialogue between the production of the north and south of the continent, which now expands with the incorporation of Spain to the other side of the ocean. A mission accomplished that took him in 2010 to be among the hundred most influential Hispanics in Florida.
