The fourth edition of the URVANITY New Contemporary Art Fair will have the city of Madrid as the protagonist and as the stage to learn about the current art revolution. From February 27 to March 1 there will be interventions of walls, installations in different locations and also, for the first time, digital artists will show their work in the urban furniture of the Spanish capital.
"We want to explore and imagine other scenarios for the New Contemporary Art and its expressions, thanks to the complicity with the different cultural agents," says the director and founder of URVANITY, Sergio Sancho.
It will be a proposal open to all citizens, to bring these disciplines to the city, and not only centered within the walls of the fair, which will meet again at the Official College of Architects of Madrid-COAM (Hortaleza, 63), with the presence of thirty galleries and ninety graffiti artists, the lowbrow or the neopop, more than half international.
20 artists, 10 seconds
As a novelty in this edition, digital art will play a prominent role in URVANITY and in the streets of Madrid. With the help of Finding Art, in collaboration with JCDecaux and with the support of the Madrid City Council through the Madrid Capital de Moda program, 20 works of 10 seconds will be shown in digital marquees.
There will be twenty windows signed by 20 artists and creatives linked to the capital, which will show virtual art through pieces that reflect on identity, relationships, existence, body, physical laws or the city.
The participating artists are: Clara Cebrián, Claudia Maté, Filip Custic, Gabriel G. Regües, Raquel Villa, Jesu Moratiel, Lola Zoido, Lucía Tahan, Marta Moya, Matteo Caro, Mit Borrás, Nacho Limpo, Nina Muro, Pau Jiménez, Sergio del Castillo, Solimán López, Teresa Rofer, Víctor Arce, Yarza Twins and Yosi Negrín.
Installations and walls
For these urban interventions, the fair has luxury partners such as the Mahou brewery and Madrid Capital de Moda. The first will allow the Muros program to leave in the city several murals by prominent artists of the so-called New Contemporary Art, such as the Swiss duo NEVERCREW (Chueca), the Madrid GVIIIE (Latina), EVER and the French Zest (both in Ambassadors).
For its part, also with Madrid Capital de Moda as a companion, the facilities of the Croatian Dunja Jankovic (San Ildefonso Square), Abel Iglesias (Callao Square, the Canadian Laurence Vallières in the COAM; as well as the sculpture) will be launched by Samuel Salcedo (at the intersection of Juan Goytisolo Square, in front of the Reina Sofía Museum).
Also, with the support of Mahou, Urban Safaris will be organized to visit the works that will be exhibited in the streets thanks to URVANITY 2020, which once again vindicates the value of artistic expressions that emerged in urban contexts from the 70s onwards, such as the post -graffiti, surreal pop or new pop art.
URVANITY was born in 2017, enriching with a new look the Madrid Art Week and creating a platform to bring these manifestations of New Contemporary Art to the public.
