Intimacy and Twisting: Ramon Feliciano’s Proposals

The Caguas Museum of Art in Puerto Rico invites readers to the grand opening (Sat, May 28 at 7:00pm) of two exhibits by artist Ramon Feliciano: Intimidad agresiva: compulsiones y conglomerados (Nonpermanent Exhibition Hall) and Retorcimientos y otros extraños sucesos (Alternative Art Hall).

In both expositions –open through Aug. 31- the artist underscores the validity of his creation, the important and smart creative contribution to the realm of the arts and the exceptionality of his discourse. Ramon Feliciano (Ponce, Puerto Rico, 1946) has developed an exquisite work under the disciplines of painting, drawing and sculpturing.

For these two exhibits, as many as 57 key pieces –one of the created in 1990, others in the late 1990s and the rest in the course of the past 11 years- have been picked. This selection allows us to take a closer look at the most outstanding trends of his work and at the creator’s development as an artist.

In Intimidad agresiva: compulsiones y conglomerados, there humongous paintings and constructions in which plasticity and respect for materials have led to high-merit artworks. Peculiar hybrids marked by eroticism are recreated in kinetic baroque and undoubtedly stand for an invitation to recognize ourselves by the hand of profound sensations.

As the press release sent to our staff office reads, “Feliciano’s work finds an oasis in nature as he reflects it in an effort to stave off the howls hailing from the entrails of earth and that converge with our own emotions. In Retorcimientos y otros extraños sucesos, we notice a certain unity that weaves through the two dozen pieces exposed in the hall. The selection shows the creative markings brought along by the use of paper, cement pieces and melted plastic. In different expressions, the artist takes us from the micro to the macro worlds full of twists and turns, teeming with threaded pressures that beget unusual figures and full-motion specters.”
