Limit Situation Workshop: The Carpenters

The NMAC Foundation (Vejer de la Frontera, Cadiz) is celebrating its tenth birthday with a workshop on artistic creation entitled Situación Límite (Limit Situation) led by Los Carpinteros (The Carpenters), a group of Cuban artists.

The course and workshop (July 1-3) pursues the creation of a platform of working ideas and methodologies to support young artists through an all-out teaching experience.

Participants will have the chance to experience and work on the ideation and production of an artistic project within an inspiring natural and cultural enclave like the one the NMAC Foundation is nestled in, under the supervision of these world-class artists.

The idea behind the workshop is to rally participants around the creation of an object, an action or an idea related to what we know as “limit situations.” “We have the intention of make participants delve into their personal backgrounds in an effort to find those limit situations that could inspire them to come up with a work of art. Moreover, it could be possible to create a fable on an imaginary limit situation and based on that story, an artistic proposal could be made.”

The NMAC Foundation treasures one of the world’s largest outdoor collections of contemporary art. The park, perched on Vejer de la Frontera, is made up of over 20 site-specific pieces by artists like Marina Abramovic, Maurizio Cattelan, Fernando Sanchez Castillo, Santiago Sierra, Olafur Eliasson and Sol Lewitt. One of the highlights is the magnificent skyscraper –the highest in Europe- thought out by James Turrell and that can be visited every late afternoon in the summertime. Previous booking by phone is required.
