2011 ALBA AWARD ON ART CRITIC AND THEORY

The “Artistas latinoamericanas: un recorrido de diálogos conceptuales” research, contestant in the first edition of 2011 Alba Award on Art Critic and Theory, received an honorary mention, as reported this Tuesday, June 7, in Havana, Cuba, during the press conference organized by “Wifredo Lam” Contemporary Art Center.

 

Jury members –Yolanda Word (Cuba); Tadeu Chiarelli (Brazil); Lenin Oña (Ecuador), and Isabel Huizi Castillo (Venezuela)–, argued the significance of the theme, argumentation and writing of this work made by Argentine author Maria Eugenia (Kekena) Corvalan. The prize was not awarded.

 

Kekena Corvalan teaches Art Theory, Marketing, Compared Arts and Latin American Art at the University of Argentine Social Museum and the University of Palermo. She gives courses at Borges Cultural Center, Rojas Cultural Center and the Latin American Art Museum in Buenos Aires (MALBA). She collaborates with different media and is the deputy director of www.leedor.com cultural site.

 

As curator, she’s been in charge since 2009 of coordinating three annual exhibitions at the Legislature Hall in Buenos Aires City. From the Professional Practice and Curatorial Work cathedra, she coordinates the production and exhibition of works in the expositive space at the University of Argentine Social Museum. She has also carried out curatorial works at Recoleta Cultural Center. This year, she’s been invited to be the curator, in Buenos Aires, of Ospite Inatesso project (Milan, Italy) and is organizing the presentation (in June) of a special exhibition with five Argentine artists at the Legislature space.
