Decorative Arts in Alsace, France

Upcoming July 2 will witness the opening of Lalique Museum, one-of-its-kind in Europe and deeply rooted into its history. This new institution, that has been included in the “Musée de France” category, will count on over 650 works created by René Lalique (French glazier master and jeweler, who was born in Ay, Marne, France, on April 6, 1860, and died on May 5, 1945) within a 900 square-meter exhibition space; including drawings, jewels, perfume bottles, dishes, lamps, vases, glassware. The objective is that spectators rediscover Lalique’s art, within an absolutely modern space designed by Ducks Scéno and Wilmotte agencies.

Exceptional jeweler and glazier master, René Lalique is one of the greatest artists of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. He was interested in the creation of new and stunning shapes, so he was recognized by important figures of the time, such as actress Sarah Bernhardt and one of the most influent artists of French Art Nouveau, Émile Gallé. Maurice Rostand called him the "Rodin of transparence", and Lalique was able to create an extemporal art, elegant, totally successful.

His works have been produced in Wingen-sur-Moder, Alsace, during 90 years. That’s the reason why the Museum carrying his name is sited in this Eastern region of France, for it’s the right space to celebrate the memory of the artist and his heritage.
