Art and Design in the UK

The Art and Design Pavilion (PAD) Organizing Committee in London has announced the final selection of guests. For this fifth edition of the fair –to be held Oct. 12-16 in Berkeley Square- a total of 56 art galleries from 11 nations have been summoned.

Founded in 2007, PAD London is characterized by a rigorous previous selection of artworks and brings to London the most prestigious dealers from Europe and North America linked to the modern arts, design, the decorative arts, photography and ethnic art.

Many galleries will be showcasing both modern and contemporary art, including Luxembourg & Dayan (U.S.), which is debuting in this event with pieces by Alexander Calder, Steven Parrino and Anselm Kiefer. Other standouts are Mitchell-Innes & Nash (U.S.) –owned by the former proprietor of Sotheby’s– that will show works by Alberto Burri and Kenneth Noland.

A significant chunk of this fair will be devoted to the latest trends of design. Some of the finest guests will be Priveekollektie (Holland), featuring works by both emerging and veteran artists like Arik Levy, Rolf Sachs and Ian Scigliuzzi. In the same breath, Nilufar Gallery (Italy) is coming with proposals that bridge the gap between art and design by the hand of Michael Anastassiades’ neon lights, Martino Gamper’s bookshelves and a set of curved tables designed by British artist Laura Wood.

In November 2011, the fair’s New York-based version will happen together with an auction of impressionist and contemporary art that usually takes place in every fall in the Big Apple. Four years of success in London and 15 of pleasant experiences under the belt of the Parisian edition throw their support behind PAD New York, this time around with an excellent collection of modern art, design, decorative arts, photography, jewelry and ethnic art.
