LA INTIMIDAD by Cesar Ordonez

Just another project by Cesar Ordonez is striking our attention these days. It’s called La Intimidad (Intimacy) and consists of a series of images taken in Tokyo that will soon –beginning Nov. 11- will be exposed at the Sala enArt in Lleida, Catalonia.

These pieces set out a reflection on the value of intimacy construed not only in the physical sense of the word, but also on its emotional impact. The Japanese society is based on respect for this “space” and the concept is rooted deeper in its idiosyncrasy than in its rule of law. And even though Tokyo is a capital of seemingly chaotic multitudes, silence and quietness are out there every step of the way.

Asked on the need to launch a project on this topic in these times, Ordonez said: “Perhaps due to the social or economic times we are living right now or maybe because of this particular time of my own life, I’m getting increasingly sensitized with what we might call the emotional or sensorial pollution, a concept that could be defined as those countless interferences or breaches our intimacy, of our private space, goes through every day and there’s nothing we can do about it.”

The idea behind this series popped up in Tokyo between 2007 and 2009 while the artist was working on previous projects –Ashimoto and Kagami- and started out on sensations and developments occurred to him during his insertion in this society.
