A Curator of Contemporary Art for MALI

Commissioner Tatiana Cuevas recently finished her work at Lima’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MALI), Peru, planned for period 2008-2011. Among the exhibitions organized by Cuevas, Gordon Matta-Clark: Deshacer el espacio stands out, it was a traveling exhibition showcased at the National Museum of Fine Arts (Chile), Museum of Modern Art (Sao Paulo), Imperial Palace (Rio de Janeiro) and MALI (2009-2010). Likewise, she was a member of the founding committee for the Centro abierto. Intervenciones de sitio especifico en el Centro Historico de Lima (2009, 2010 and 2012). During the last four years, Tatiana was also in charge of the development and increase of the Museum’s permanent collection, heading the curatorial team that acts as consultant to the Contemporary Art Acquisitions Committee of MALI.

 

The Museum, a non-profitable private organization, is looking forward to hiring a new curator of contemporary art. MALI’s contemporary art program, conceived as a vast work platform aimed at promoting and spreading contemporary creations in the field of visual arts and their relations with other expressions, is based on its permanent collection, which presently counts on almost a thousand works produced since 1950. The curator shall develop a strategic expansion plan for the museum’s modern and contemporary collections, through the close collaboration with donors, artists, gallery owners, as well as a broad program of research and development.

 

Likewise, the curator will be closely working with collectors that make up the Contemporary Art Acquisitions Committee (CAAC). She/he shall schedule and carry out an active program of temporal exhibitions, projects and public programs on Peruvian and international contemporary art. They are called to develop a wide and participative project to work by summoning other professionals and international or local institutional initiatives.

The results will be announced on November 14. The second part of the process: face-to-face interview with candidates, on November 28. The selected person is to begin working in 2012.
