2011 Art Basel Miami Beach

The organizers of 2011 Art Basel Miami Beach have made public details on some of the event’s fundamental themes.

Art Positions stands out among the sections of the Fair, with strong presence of young galleries and emphasis on the Latin American selection, which almost represents the 50 percent of projects in 2011. In Art Positions each gallery presents the project of an artist and that is the reason why it has been considered an opportunity for curators, critics and collectors to discover new talents. 16 expositive spaces devoted to ten or so countries are included this time. Among them Lucia de la Puente Gallery, from Lima, with Cesar Cornejo’s work; Baró Gallery, from São Paulo, showcasing Rosana Ricalde’s artworks; Casas Riegner Gallery (Bogota) invites Icaro Zorbar; Cinthia Marcelle participates with Silvia Cintra + Box4 (Rio de Janeiro) and Travesia Cuatro, from Madrid, proposes Marco Rountree’s poetics.

On the other hand, Art Kabinett Selection Committee, section aimed at curatorial proposals, has chosen 30 galleries, exceeding previous results. The program includes theme collective exhibitions, as well as individuals carried out by emerging artists and acclaimed figures. Among young artists we can mention Martin Jacobson (Andréhn-Schiptjenko), Adrian Villar Rojas (Benzacar) and Claudia Wieser (Sies+Hoke), to be sharing space with prestigious figures such as Beatrice Wood (Nauman), Yves Kleinand John Cage (Gmurzynska). Repetitions – Art Works in Plural, by Kicken Berlinand The Two of Us (Adler & Conkright) among group projects.
