Art and New Technologies in ARCOmadrid

ARCO 2012’s organizers continue keeping us posted on what the upcoming event, scheduled for February 15-19 of 2012 in Madrid, has in store.

For the seventh time BEEP -a computer and electronics store chain-, in its effort to promote and develop electronic art, has called for a contest to award the work that best succeeds in showing a new dimension of contemporary art by means of technology. A unique prize consisting of 15.000 euros will be granted to one of the digital art pieces included in any of the Fair’s sections.

The ARCOmadrid/BEEP Prizes encourage the production and exhibition of art linked to new technologies or electronic art, while fostering artistic creation involving informatics and digital tools. Moreover, they seek to facilitate the communication between manufacturers or technology developers and artists so that they can establish bonds of collaboration that could be enriching and fruitful for all.

The grounds for the contest can be read at www.ARCOmadrid.beep.es.The deadline for submitting the works is the first day of the fair, February 15, 2012. The results will be announced February 17 and the winning piece will be included in the BEEP collection.

In previous contests, the prize was awarded to Time Capsule by Eduardo Kac (Brazil), TheEkrmz-Trilogy by the Swiss-Austrian-American duet UBERMORGEN.COM, and Brazilian Anaisa Franco for ExpandedEye, among others.
