An Installation by Malaga Artist Carlos Aires

Curated by Fernando Frances, Opening Night, by Carlos Aires, will remain open thru May 6 at the CAC Malaga.

This is the first great installation by the artist being exposed under these characteristics in this institution and it was exclusively conceived for the Espacio Proyectos at the CAC Malaga. The piece is made up of 2,500 small lanterns with black-and-white pictures tacked on them. That implies a communication with spectators in terms of space and the proposal’s sensorial participation.

This is what Fernando Frances had to say: “Carlos Aires is back to flummox us with an installation in which he experiments with sensations, like blindness, a condition he has drawn to in the past. As a human being, he faces off darkness and tries it out, taking up the slack that remains in his mind when he turns off all the lights. It’s all about a tryout that keeps spectators inside the hall on the edge of their seats as part of the proposal.”

“I’ve worked with various works related to blindness or the dark rooms that hook up directly with this artwork,” says Carlos Aires. His work on this topic gave him the Caja Madrid Prize for his piece entitled “Cataracts”, a documentary film on congenial blind people and their interpretations of world catastrophes.

Aires has a degree on Fine Arts at the Alonso Cano School of Fine Arts in Granada. His works have been exposed in museums and galleries around the world.
